Hot Chocolate with Vanilla

This hot chocolate recipe is sure to warm you up on Christmas Day.

  • Three ounces (85 grams) of chocolate
  • Ten fluid ounces (300 ml) of milk
  • One vanilla pod, split in half lengthwise
  • One tablespoon of superfine sugar (caster sugar)
  • Three fluid ounces (100 ml) of whipped cream
  • Chocolate powder or cocoa powder

Instructions

Break the chocolate into pieces.

Place the chocolate pieces, the milk, the vanilla pod and the sugar in a saucepan.

Heat slowly.  Stir the mixture until all the chocolate is melted.

Bring the mixture to a boil while beating it with an eggbeater (whisk) so that it becomes frothy.

Remove the vanilla pod.

Pour into mugs that have been warmed. Top with whipped cream and chocolate or cocoa powder.
