The addition of gin to this mulled wine gives it an air of sophistication.
- One bottle of red wine
- Two ounces (60 grams) of demerara sugar - more sugar can be added if necesary.
- One cinnamon stick
- Nutmeg (grated) - to taste
- One halved orange
- One bay leaf (dried)
- Sloe gin or damson gin (this is optional)
Method
- Place all of the ingredients in a pan.
- Heat the mixture gently. Once all of the sugar has dissolved, taste the mixture. If you would like your wine to be sweeter, you may put more sugar in now.
- Once all of the sugar has dissolved, remove the pan from the heat. You can stir the gin in now, if you want to add it.
- Strain the mixture, then serve it immediately in glasses that can safely hold hot beverages.
