Negus was a mulled wine that was often served to children in Victorian England at dinner and at parties.

Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management, which was published in 1861, has a recipe for Negus to be served at the birthday party of a child. Here are the ingredients:

  • One pint of port wine
  • One quart of water
  • A quarter of a pound of sugar
  • One lemon
  • Grated nutmeg - amount as desired
